As many people have asked about the details of grants to help support residents during the current crisis of skyrocketing energy bills, an extract from the BH&HPA website has been added below which explains the current situation in regards to park home owners:
Earlier today, the new Prime Minister announced a series of energy measures that are relevant for the parks industry:
- Business energy rates will be capped at the same rate as household energy bills for the next six months – we believe this starts from 1 Oct and we are awaiting detail on the exact proposed kWh charges.
- After six months, ongoing support will be considered for specific industries.
- Households will have bills capped for the next two years.
- For those using heating oil, living in park homes or those on heat networks, a fund will be set up so that all UK consumers can benefit from equivalent support.
- Equivalent support for households and businesses in Northern Ireland is being developed, but this requires additional legislation.
- Fracking will have a big focus, this could have a detrimental effect on some rural areas and tourist destinations.
When will more information be available?
The practical details of these announcements are not yet clear and will be set out by Government in the coming weeks as well as in an emergency budget later this month. BH&HPA are planning webinars with our expert National Advisers and further communications to support members as more information becomes available.
What if I am in contract that is higher than the new cap?
The Prime Minister did not mention what this means for households or businesses in higher fixed term contracts however we will keep members informed should there be any announcements regarding this.
What support will there be for residential park homeowners?
Today the Prime Minister confirmed a fund will be set up so park homeowners can benefit from equivalent support. There is still due to be a £400 energy relief for residential park homeowners and Government is finalising the detail of how this will be administered. The Park Homes Warm Home Discount, which homeowners apply for themselves, is also due to be announced in the coming days.
What we don’t know yet are the practical details of how these proposals will be put in place and the exact new charges – the Government has yet to announce this information and much of it is still being worked out by officials. The legislation required to enable households and businesses in Northern Ireland to also benefit from support is still being set out too.
We will continue to keep members updated as much as possible.
